Thor

Directed by . . . Kenneth Branagh!

Quote:
Kenneth Branagh is in negotiations to direct Thor, the adaptation of the Marvel Comics property into a live-action feature set to be released in 2010.

According to Variety, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige's choice of Branagh is surprising, as Branagh hasn't really directed an action-heavy film since his debut on Henry V, a bloody telling of the British king's conquest of France.

The Thor comicbook adaptation, penned by Mark Protosevich, follows disabled medical student Donald Blake, who has an alter ego as the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor.

A production date has not been set.

Wait.

Thor is really a disabled student in the books? Why didn't I know that?

Yeah, but I can't remember in what way he's disabled. I never read a lot of Thor books.

I have to read up on Thor more. I remember buying the comics as a kid but that was before most of you were born.

Do you think that this director will provide a Thor movie that 'fits' with the current Marvel movies and eventually an Avengers movie?

Just curious as I think most feel this is the ultimate 'direction' Marvel wants.

I think if that's Marvel's goal then Marvel will give Branagh a structure and boundaries with which to move in. Branagh is one of my favorites, so I think we'll get something really special . . . or a total disaster.

They had comics back then? Wow, I thought story telling was more of an oral tradition in "your day" Iggy.

My retort will be elsewhere. And soon.

Back to Thor. If they can pull this off, Marvel will have succeeded where no one IMO has gone before. A true all inclusive Super Hero movie with a diverse cast of heroes and all in the same 'realism'.

Something like that.

Personally, I have a hard time buying that someone can pull off this movie without it being overly campy and stupid.

IF they don't buy into the mythology too much and play it off as something Thor strongly believes, but they don't show it on screen, then I think this can work.

Anthony Hopkins will play Odin and has this to say:

"He's a stern man. He's a man with purpose," he said. "I play the god who banishes his son from the kingdom of Asgard because he screwed up. He's a hot-headed, temperamental young man --- probably a chip off of the old block -- but I decide he's not really ready to rule the future kingdom, so I banish him. I'm harsh and my wife complains and I say, 'That is why I'm king.' He's ruthless, take-it-or-leave-it. Women are much more forgiving; men are not so forgiving. I know in my life, my karma is, 'If you don't like it, tough, move on.' And I move on. I'm a little like Odin myself."

Overall i think they have him right. The arms i wish they could of gone with some real chain mesh. The arms in the pic just seems rubbery for a God. Still he looks the part in the picture.

Not so sure about that gold eye-patch you're sporting, Mr. Odin.

More 3D too.

It looks like they hired the set designer from Flash Gordon. All that's missing is the Queen soundtrack.

No, it looks like Branagh pulled it off.

I'm really enjoying this rather unprecedented cooperative going on in these Marvel films. We've really never had anything like it in cinema. And I love Clark Gregg.

The outfits of the Asgardians looked a lot better in the trailer than what I first got from the stills. I was really worried about that for some reason.

Wow. I can't wait for more on this and hope to hell the dude directing GL can pull off what Branagh appears to be doing with this character.

Martin Campbell is directing Green Lantern. He's one of the best action directors working today, and he showed with Casino Royale that he could handle character and story, as well. I think Kenneth Branagh is the better filmmaker, but Campbell is more experienced with these types of films.

Who was that user of unregistered weapons technology anyway? I'm not up the villains in the Thor universe.

And damn ... that was a bit corny wasn't it. Hopefully that kind of silliness is at a minimum throughout the rest of the film.

Really? I liked that exchange between Gregg and the other agent. "Stark never tells me anything."

I didn't hear him say Stark, or it didn't register. Ahh. Could those dudes be agents of SHIELD? Wait, that wouldn't make sense, or would it? Either way, I get the intended humor now.

Neat.

They are agents. Don't you remember Gregg from the Iron Man films? He's the guy who kept pestering Pepper for an appointment with Stark.

Agent Coulson: I'm Agent Phil Coulson with the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

Pepper Potts: That's quite a mouthful.

Agent Coulson: I know. We're working on it.

Jesus Pirate. Of course I didn't remember that. However, after watching the 5 minutes of glory again, it's all coming back and this tie-in shit is really frigging awesome to me. I just wish the larger and supposed HD version was really HD. Fucking thing in full screen went all blocky on me.
